Paul W. Gertz (1950-2017)
Attorney at Law
In Memory of Paul W. Gertz, 1950- 2017:

Beaumont trial lawyer Paul Withington Gertz exhausted his final appeal on October 21, 2017; he was 67 years old. Paul was a beloved advocate, partner, husband, father, and friend. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, leadership, sense of humor, and infectious laugh.

Paul Gertz has practiced law for over forty years - thirty of which have been spent in southeast Texas with an additional eight years of practice in the state of Colorado.  Paul returned to Beaumont, Texas in 2013 to join his two sons, Ryan and Andrew, at The Gertz Law Firm.  Since coming back to Beaumont, he has represented injured clients and clients involved in business and consumer disputes.

Paul Gertz has a long history of successful trial work in East Texas. After graduating with Honors from SMU Law School in Dallas, Paul joined the corporate  firm of Orgain, Bell & Tucker in Beaumont.  He quickly  began to represent people sued in automobile accidents and businesses sued for personal injuries and for other business matters.  For years, Paul Gertz was in trial nearly every month in many of the various courts of East Texas.  As his experience grew, so did the size of the cases he handled.  Paul Gertz quickly became a trial lawyer respected by Judges, fellow attorneys, as well as his clients.
In 1982, Paul Gertz became certified as a Personal Injury and Civil Trial Specialist by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization (he retained that certification until 2007, when he did not apply for recertification while practicing in Colorado).  Paul is also AV Rated as a 5.0/5.0 preeminent lawyer by his peers.  According to Martindale-Hubbell,  AV Preeminent® is a testament to the fact that his peers rank Paul at the highest level of professional and ethical excellence.

After being a partner for several years at Orgain, Bell & Tucker, he left that firm with Larry Germer to form the firm of Germer Gertz. The new firm grew from three attorneys to sixty five attorneys with offices in Beaumont, Houston, and Austin. Paul worked with some of the leading firms from across the United States in defending corporations and insured people against people hurt in accidents. He also worked defending and suing businesses in complicated business litigation. Paul’s expertise is further shown by his AV rating given by his peers for his outstanding legal skill and his selection by his fellow attorneys as a Texas Super Lawyer in 2004 (a Thompson Reuters Service, Published in Texas Monthly Magazine). Based on his reputation, he was asked in 2003 and 2004 to teach Trial Lawyer skills to law students at the University of Houston Law Center. His skill in representing people who were hurt in accidents was further sharpened when he started his own law firm in the Aspen area of Colorado, where he practiced for 8 years, before returning to Beaumont.

Over the years, in working for corporate and insurance clients, Paul learned how corporations work and handle claims , and how to effectively deal with large corporations to get the best settlements possible for  individual clients. In his 39 year career, he has learned the fine points of representing injured clients. He has learned how to present a claim to companies to get the best settlement possible. He has the skills as a trial attorney to effectively present his client’s case to a judge and jury if the case cannot be settled for a fair amount.

In 2013, Paul joined his two sons back in Beaumont to work for hurt people and clients in their business disputes all across east Texas.
